Air Jordan into Hall of Fame

Michael Jordan was one of the greatest NBA players of all time. Maybe the greatest.

Does that mean he should be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame by himself this fall? Some in the Chicago area think so.   I don’t agree but I can understand the argument.

Also to be inducted this fall will be John Stockton, David Robinson, Jerry Sloan and Vivian Stringer. The thought behind making MJ the only inductee was that Stockton, Robinson, Sloan and Stringer will be so overshadowed by Jordan, that won’t get their due spotlight.

I don’t like the idea because MJ was not the only show in town. He was the greatest show but not the only one.

Michael was a great competitor. He rose above the others, both literally and figuratively. To induct only him in 2009 removes some of the context. Michael was a great among greats.

I loved how spontaneous he was. What great fun it was to see him drive the lane, leap into the air, then react to the defenders and still get off a shot that amazingly went in.

His Bulls won six NBA championships. I don’t remember any as blowouts or easy. Many were memorable because of Michael’s last second heroics. He was one of the greatest ever in a league full of great athletes and basketball players.
