Shooting Stars NBA Style

The Shooting Star challenge that was part of the NBA All-Star Weekend proved it pays to never loose hope. The finals of the Saturday night event were between Team Phoenix and Team Detroit.

This event starts out with teams trying to make 3-pointers from five different spots in the front court. Once they have made five, then teams try to make a 45-foot shot from near half court. Teams are made up of one current NBA and WNBA player and one NBA legend.

Team Detroit went first in the final round and completed the challenge in 58.4 seconds. Team Detroit included Bill Lambeer, Katie Smith and Aaron Afflalo.

When Team Phoenix took their turn, they blazed out to a 5-for-5 start on the 3-pointers. They completed that part of the challenge so fast that they had over 40 seconds to make the final shot, the half court shot, to finish ahead of Team Detroit.

But the half court shots wouldn’t fall for Team Phoenix, which included Dan Majerle, Leandro Barbosa and Tangela Smith. They had a lot of close shots that bounced off the rim and a couple that were in and out. They couldn’t knock down a 45-footer, though, until their time reached 1:15.

That meant Team Detroit won with the 58.4 time, proving you shouldn’t give up hope until the final buzzer sounds.
